I'm using a couple of companies on Ebay that supply a synthetic type felt that's made from recycled bottle tops. Unlike the proper felt this stuff does not pick up dirt easily or discolour with age whilst providing adequate protection to the knobs and dial scale.

here is a close up of the on/off switch.
today i fitted a new mains lead and fitted a new rf filter cap.
powered up via lamp limiter and signs of life.
dial lamp lit and valve heaters .
after about 3 minuets loud mains hum with a station in the background.
next step is to try and reform the smothing block and change the ul41 grid 1 coupling cap

well i now have a working set.
i could not reform the smoothing block 1st section still drawing 750MA after 4 hours
and that was at 60 volts!
so untill i can rebuild the can there are 2x 33mf under the chassis.
i changed C31 to be on the safe side (ul41 coupling cap) .
on applying mains i now had no hum tuned to radio 5 live exelent but very bassy
also the volume control was intermitent.
found that C37 was leaky (tone correction on vol pot) so changed it.
now working well on MW not so well on LW (only 2 stations)
i have found that the cores of T1 and T2 are loose.
so some time this week its out with the signal gen.
i am not shore about changing the rest of the black pitch caps as none read leaky.
the cabinet is polising up well..

I didn't hear R4 on the Long Wave, although I heard others.Alignment?

the video was done before the vol pot and the wave change switch was cleaned.
certainly t1 and t2 cores have been got at and are loose so Alignment yes in the next few days i hope.

now finished (still need a knob and spacer for vol pot)
the problem with LW was T6 core was miles out it does not help that my sig gen has decided to drift a bit but radio 4 now there and in the correct place the cabinet has come up ok useing bakobright . a pic with the wrong knob tomorow
