And I always thought kit from the USA was bad enough, but the Euro pin plug is a good contender.

How about a 13A (not) plug that to make sure it goes bang correctly is non fused?
   

I tested it with the low ohms range on my PAT tester.
The terminal block came rolling in at 0.01 ohms.
The horror mains lead measured 1 whole ohm on all conductors and being marked 10 amps the cable would have been heated at 200W

   
   

The pointer is struggling to get away from the rest position.
The conductors are very thin and the cable is marked 0.5mm however the conductors measured up below this figure.

   
   

Is this one dodgy enough to get a prize?

Presumably .5 mm refers to the cross sectional area.

Well I would expect the diameter of the bundle of conductors to be a lot wider than a third of a millimeter.
one millimeter is the width between the marking plus the width of the printed line on the tape.
Even the overall bundle including the gaps between the conductors is less than 0.5mm cross section.
It is well under rated and it also got nice and warm when I pressed the button to measure the resistance.
The PAT tester has an open circuit voltage of 6V RMS on earth test so it would have seen about 6 amps in one conductor at a time. That is 36W
If that had been a 6 amp load it would have been 72W as there would have been two conductors carrying the currant.

Back at message 10 those hair tongs were in a plastic bag in bits with a resistor ripped out and a second hand one provided that would almost certainly have been the wrong value.
Those tongs are so dangerous that I do not understand how they can be legally sold.
