I've always tested them post mortem and until these had found them all to leak. Often they are physically cracked which I expect allows moisture in.

i wounder if hunts made different grades? nearly all black or brown hunts caps i have found in domestic radios and tv's have been leaky but in hifi and test gear seem to be a lot better. maybe its because hifi and test gear did did not do the hours? i am about to start on a radio thats full of them so we shall see.

I think I can now call this one finished.

The case came up very well with very little effort. I poured some spirit-based stain into my beeswax polish and then loaded a pan-scrubber with this and went over the cabinet. It then buffed up as seen.

Nice work Joe, I want one. That speaker cloth looks pretty good.

I've no doubt mentioned it before but I do like GEC sets. There's just something about the styling that says grandad, pipe smoke, comfy armchair, open fire and a clock ticking away on the mantle.

I know what you mean, Andrew. I'm not short of ticking clocks but don't have an open fire and pipe tobacco is too expensive these days.
