Typically the smaller suppliers are more expensive, the same with eBay etc where it seems people buy caps from the bigger suppliers (RS, Rapid, Farnell etc) and sell them on at a profit!

Your best bet is to get some component drawers and keep them stocked up with caps!

I assume you are referring to a capacitor kit for a particular radio, they will not have a clue what your on about and they don't exist. Years ago Tudor at Savoy-Hill did this but sadly he has passed on.

I buy all my caps from Just Radios in Canada, they are good value and do old style values. They do generic cap/resistor kits for valve radios not that I've bought the kits. As Josh says build up a stock of the most populars .1,.01,.001 etc

The independent suppliers are certainly more helpful but they aren't going to know enough, of have the time, to just give you a kit of parts for a particular set. It's easy enough to copy the list off the service sheet but some values are no longer available so you'll have to get the nearest you can. Give that the old ones could have been 20% out when new this really doesn't matter.

The very low value ones can be left alone as they seem to last 'for ever' providing they aren't mechanically damaged.

Someone will be along soon who's got the data and will be able to tell you better than I.

i tend to use Metalized Polyester Film caps just because i like the look of them
the ones i keep in bulk stock are
0.001mf 0.01mf 0.1mf
0.002mf 0.02mf 0.2mf
0.03mf
mixture of 400/250/ and 600 volts

That looks rather like my 'Stock List' so I'm obviously on the right track The other ones I've got are 0.003μF (3.3nF) and 0.047μF (47nF).

I started out by buying odd ones as needed but then realised just how addictive vintage radios are so I surrendered and stocked up!

It would be much better to use Switch or Contact Cleaner as WD40 can be corrosive to contacts (you can get it from Maplin)
I have to admit i've used WD40 too

Ahh, no, the WD40 is to try and get the knobs off the shafts.

Are these the correct style for dial lamps spec sheet says 6.5v 0.3 amp
