You have broken that rule.
"Don't touch what is not broke".
Those pots you adjusted have sat there and corroded in the air even though they may still look new.
You would need to get them back to where they were before which is almost impossible.
New pots is the way to go. Modern ones are enclosed and less likely to go noisy.
