Computer memory is pretty much like the size of your house. However big it is you will always fill it.
The most interesting realisation I have had in recent times is that the graphics processor is perhaps now becoming the most important for throughput in the computer though, with its parallel processing power. The main processor is now being increasingly relagated to a supervisory role in many processing intensive applications. This requires increasing amounts of memory.
