I have a couple of original Scott Taggart books of the same era, fun reading. Also have the F G Rayer book about building a radio, valve version. I spent ages reading that (from the library) when I was but a lad and did scrounge parts from the local radio shop (they gave me a dead battery portable radio which I took apart). I did build the one valve regen set and never looked back. I can still remember the coil specs. 1 and 1/8th inch diameter with 80 and 60 turns, I may be wrong but it is over 50 years ago and 1 1/8th inch is (was) the size of a bog roll inner.
