Hi David splendid set why does these EHT transformers fail ? is it because they are Mains derived EHT kind regards Bob

I'd suspect it's down to the purity of the pitch impregnation - slightly corrosive and given time, it'll attack the wire enamel, maybe the copper, and it's curtains!

Or maybe the interleaving paper similarly. 80+ years is a long time for something happening very slowly, to take effect.
