I have an Android phone (Samsung) and the native email was Gmail which I didn't want to use. There are many email apps for Android - just google comparative reviews - but I settled on K9 Mail. This is nice and simple. It just does email and doesn't try to make the tea. Most email these days is receveid using IMAP, which means that it can be received on multiple devices without any trouble. Most email providers will work with IMAP rather than the older and more limited POP3.
If you, or anyone else, are still using email that's linked to your ISP now is the time to stop. Actually the time to stop was years ago. I know too many people who have been left in the lurch because their ISP didn't want to continue offering email addresses, or because they changed ISP and lost their address as a result. Again there are loads of email providers, both free and paid. The best known are gmail and outlook (was hotmail) but there are plenty more. Just google for comparative reviews. I pay to have my own domains (such as borinsky.co.uk) and email hosting (the hosting costs me 70p/month with Ionos) but that's more complicated than many people would want or need.
