Surely the ferrite has only tuning (main aerial coil) and smaller coil to feed RF to mixer/oscillator, which on some radios is a tap on a larger winding. The oscillator coil is always separate and for MW in an IFT style can on a transistor set. ZN414 type radios, valve sets, sets with an FET for RF in and some DSP ASIC based cheap radios don't have the second coil. Sets adaptable for car use would have a small coil on the ferrite rod for the car aerial whip.
