My dad had a modern Wheatstone type concertina. He played it well too. Much more portable and lighter than the weapons of mass destruction called Piano Accordions.
The Wheatstone type squeeze box is very expensive. I suspect very similar materials and construction to the original. A harmonica (AKA mouth-organ) might work on a similar principle of reeds, but is vastly cheaper.
