Thanks for the reply, Mark. Bear in mind that this is a pocket set with a 40 ohm speaker and running off a PP3. There's no hint at all that the quoted current is for the output pair. I just have a feeling that 11-12 mA quiescent would have resulted in a rather short battery life for the zinc-carbon PP3s of the age.
Incidentally, this is an "Empire Made", Ekco, after Ecko ceased production in the UK and most likely imported from Hong Kong, given the Toshiba transistors.
