Hi.
My brother many moons ago told me that a 15 ohm 12 inch speaker I was using fed from my Kendy transistor radio would burn out the radio. I didn't believe him and when I eventually learned about theory I was able to tell him why not.
The 12 inch speaker was far more efficient than the piddly 2.5 inch 8 ohm in the radio, the higher impedance of the 12 inch speaker was less of a load on the output stage and the volume was set much lower than previously, battery life trebled.
My Mullard 3-3 fed a huge Marshall speaker system with 18 inch speakers and boy was I impressed, very loud and it sounded superb.
If making a 1 watt amp then use a high efficiency speaker as big as possible make an acoustically correct housing and enjoy the sounds.
On a different topic as a radio amateur I am a big fan of QRP (low power) with 3 watts I've worked Australia and Puerto Rico and virtually all of Europe. There is a lot you can do with low power and also save money on leccy.
