I am one of the few people without both television and licence and was not aware that a B & W licence was still an option. My parents never had a television when I was living at home and I have never felt the need for one, nor had the time to watch one! I do listen to a lot of radio, almost exclusively BBC Radio 4, with selected Radio 3 favourites, such as this evening's J to Z and would be more than happy to pay for a radio licence to preserve the independence of the BBC. As is appropriate for a member of this forum, all of my listening, except when I have missed a live broadcast, is on VHF or MW. The VHF transmitter is two miles away in direct line of sight and the MF transmitter is three miles away on the same bearing but slightly lower. I certainly don't have any reception problems; recently I noticed that the sound quality on my Eddystone EB35 was reduced. When I checked, I found that the 300ohm feeder had become detached from the balun, probably by the dog, and was quite a distance from the set. Provided that the feeder was within about a foot of the balun, reception was the same as when connected.
