I drove in the early 1960's, after buying a vintage (1929) Austin Seven. No indicators, no synchromesh, no brake lights
The clutch was more like an on/off switch as well. Three hands would have been better when you wanted to turn right.
Then I found a driving school who used the then new Ford Cortina, and that was a revelation and took a lot of getting used to.
