Sheer luck with the S3 part I reckon. I guess that demand dropped away and the distributors were left with stock of what had once been a popular part.
Kit still has analogue inputs. The TI decoder may be "last man standing" in this field.
If you decide to stop producing Auroras would you consider making the entire design (HW and SW) open source? On an " as is" basis because you certainly don't want to do that kind of support. I doubt that anyone else would pick it up - there's not the profit to be had - but a few people might be inspired to play with the ideas.
