In 16 years we've barely spent a penny on it, but the bill for the upgrades etc. just came it at just over £1,000 - as things stand, we should save that this year.

A COP of 4 sounds optimistically high. Hope you achieve it consistently and cope with the resulting rather cool ‘hot’ water. Unfortunately, the problem with heat pumps is that they don’t run on gas but on electricity. Our Octopus electricity is some 5x the cost of gas, neatly wiping out any heat pump coefficient of performance. Currently there seems no solution.
