Hi Peter.
Somehow this sounds very familiar. I'll put something down and hunt for it sometimes for more than half and hour only to find it clearly in front of me on the bench.
At that point I'll start talking to myself and Judy has sneaked into the shed thinking I've gone mad hearing me mumbling to myself.
Her timing is always spot on. Well at least I've not replaced an on off switch with it powered up and putting the last wire on and the TV coming on for a number of years....... Oh dear.
