But dial cords, drive spindle and the drum work best if greased with silicone grease or Vaseline AKA Petroleum jelly if the tension is correct. Make sure no rust or dirt on the spindle drive. The cord should have 2.5 to 3.5 turns on it according to service info and has to continuously slip on the spindle or it will move out of the groove. Make sure the tuning capacitor isn't stuff, but when oiling bearings (the grease can set) don't get anything into the vanes (stator or rotor) or the capacitance goes off!
