It was no wonder it was gutless. 34BHP and 40lbf. And that was when new, or rebuilt engine. No wonder my dad ground majestically to a halt on steep hills. I heard rumours of the best technique was to reverse up.
My 848 cc Mini Mk1 was 32bhp. Citroen Dyane 602cc 32bhp, the 875cc Imp was 39 Bhp. I'd say the mini wasn't good on hills either as it ran out of steam worse in fact than the Dyane, the Imp was good but mine overheated at the thought of a hill!
A 997cc Anglia van I had was very good and would take off on a 1 in 4 Hill due to the low geared first.
Also surprisingly good was the Skoda 1000MB 988cc with 42bhp torque was pretty flat from 1000 rpm and above so a bit of a slogger, would just do a 1 in 3 hillstart too.
