Sadly marketing concentrates on higher resolution instead of universal progressive frame rates of 48 (already used by cinema) and 96. The 50Hz and 60Hz was to suit lighting though it also made a hum bar on domestic TV stationary. The 25 fps and 30 fps was purely to halve the transmission bandwidth.
As an aside, to get 1920 x 1080 VGA at 50Hz on a 4:3 19" Dell monitor on a PC with a satellite reception card, including WS 16:9 by underscan of the height, there are actually 1125 lines. Which the first hybrid NHK Japanese NTSC based Satellite HD used. The default "high resolution" for 4:3 VGA is meant to be 1600 x 1200 @ 75 Hz
