Hi Just remembered about the DVSA moving goal posts and HID lamps in 1996 BMW E327 series and not long after Renault Laguna followed 2001 Mercedes 210 E Class were the first cars in the UK to have HID headlamps and then when you checked all lamps you had to do the tapp test to see if the lamp had a bad connection and you had to fail it if it flickered or went out you failed the lamp . in 2003 you still had to go on a 2 day refresher course at your local HGV testing station and i asked the question the person running the course what happens i i do the tap test on a HID headlamp and it goes out an the customer who is watching you in the viewing area complains that it was working before you tapped it bearing in mind the bulb then was £150 + vat the answer i got was to say the bulb was on the way out and if it was taken further to claim on you insurance 2 years later you got a special notice not to do the tapp test that had been out since the 1970s wonder why ? never got a straight answer kind regards Bob
