There was an installation near Lynton of one, to supply Lynton and Lynmouth as an island if the main power lines failed due to weather. It certainly happened back in the 1980's, and I can remember one occasion it ran out of fuel and the lights all dimmed out over a period of a couple of seconds as it ran down.
