Up to now I have only been working on the cabinet, if i can get that is a presentable state, then I get fewer issues with it being in the house.  So this has been dismantled the best I can taking out a the speaker board, the black inlay piece and the base.  Then sanding down the rest.  Compared to the pictures I could see on the web the varnish/shellac on this one seems to have duled quite a lot, the wood underneath is quite light compared., it could well darken a bit when I re-coat with something. 

I contacted David Grant of murphy-radio.co.uk who confirms it is a List of Broadcasting Stations which is a 4½ × 7½ inch affair that slides in the slot.

The speaker appears to be in good condition, no holes etc a few small signs of staining possibly mould at some point but, no signs of any wood worm holes or anything on the cabinet so very happy with that, will put some pictures up when i have something to show otherwise Tim's pictures of the radio can be found in this offered thread.
