It may not be a strip. It could be two LEDs one at each end with either frosted glass diffuser or a plastic type diffuser. It won't be a strip you cut as they are in the main 12v.
You may find the display has a metal surround that needs to come off to access the rear of the display. Be carful if the actual LCD as some connect through a rubber looking strip incorrect fitting and you will loose digits or segments
