On a personal note, I use Firefox, duckduckgo, privacy badger and Addblocker. I also use a user agent that shows I use a Max and Safari browser, and I use a Linux machine.
I only have 4 websites that I allow the browserr to keep cookies of, and this site is one, the other vintage site, batc and amsat. All other cookies etc are deleted when firefox is shut down.
I have a google account for general email notifications and sometimes will pass files to others via google drive. plus another email account from a secure provider for higher level stuff.
Recently deleted my Facebook account as I was generally just annoyed with the content/crap pushed my way.
I have a very simple youtube channel, which is branded so it does not use my ID and is not of a general interest to any large numbers of people. I used to have a DIY CNCplasma channel where I managed to get over 1k subscribers and had the opportunity to make some money, but as I hit the 1K mark, that was when some serious spam and email threats came in, I had made the mistake of hosting a support website and email address from home which meant I had a permanent IP associated to my site. It was all shut down and deleted. It was not worth the email threats and spamming attacks on the home router. So perhaps I am a bit more paranoid about tracking and security now. Any online buying is just down from my main PC.
Perhaps my most drastic action has been to stop using a smart phone (google android). Without any requirement to surf the internet every minute for facebook updates, twitter this, or any other social media updates, a cheap and very basic phone from the likes of asda now does me. In-store purchases can still be varified via sms. No tracking, pop-ups etc. It may be good that Apple have taken the action they have with respect to online tracking and facebook, anything to make user aware of what happens is good.
If one needs to use the internet when in public networks then a VPN is probably one very simple way to add an extra layer of security even if you actions can still be determined, the general hacker will have to be a bit more sophisticated.
Now if we could find a way of tracking the SIP gateways we may be able to stop some of the annoying telephone calls that come from abroad that pretend to be UK call centres.
