I've done a basic job on it for now. The back bracket is a bit of steel strip that I bent and drilled. Deosn't look nice but it's never seen in normal use. the straight bar is a bit of steel that looks fine. Being more rigid than brass is an advantage. The ugly bit is the Meccano trunnion, exactly the right size for the job. Even the hole spacing was right. I'll replace it one day if I see something suitable.
I found a couple of 4BA "nyloc" type nuts for the journals. Used with countersunk screws they do a good job.
