Thanks for the picture Peter. That looks a fearsome machine. The 2nd half of the 19th century, into the early 20th century, saw a widening interest in "spark gap" technology. Oliver Lodge & Tesla were just an example of scientists in the forefront. Eventually, primitive radio transmitters started to appear. Commercially, Marconi was at the forefront, but he just plagiarised the scientific work of others.
Wee spark-gap buzzers were also later used in primitive radio test equipment - I've a "Wavemeter" from the early 20's made my "The Tottenham Wireless Society". Plus a, pre-TDR , cable fault detector from the 30's/40's made my "The P & B Engineering C. Ltd" from Crawley.
I'm on the look-out for a decent lidded wooden box to house the larger El. Th. Coil - approx. 12" x 8" x 6" internally would do. If anyone kens of one, please let me know.
