Well, the story is with Droitwich is it will go off when they ‘run out of valves’. But as you say, with few AM capable sets sold these days, there’s even fewer with LW.
However, with a power grid failure not only will there be a nice clear signal but you’ll be able to hear 198 on a crystal set.
I have in the past said to friends in jest that should the bomb drop they should stick with me. I have an all valve short wave transmitter and receiver* and a car with no electronics that pretty much runs on any old fuel.
With, everything relying on the internet and microwave transmission, come the next big one they’ll just curb/censor all outside internet sources, and simply tell us only that that which want us to know/believe.
For all that I do feel we are living in an increasingly dangerous age with particular regimes increasingly flexing their muscles.
*As a licenced amateur I would probably have been ordered to hand it in.
