Played a bit more and have come up with a basic idea for something compatible with using those chokes as an oscillator transformer, scribbled circuit attached. The difference from normal is that the feedback is coupled into the cathode rather than the grid, it gives a much cleaner waveform and constancy of amplitude than other topologies I've tried. To run this circuit with a DH valve it would need the filament power fed through two coupling windings I'm assured....
The phasing of the two chokes in the circuit is important...
