A great uncle of mums had one of those Vauxhall cars new, I asked about it because he has a photo, looks American in style. Didn't last long, five years and the engine mounts rusted away and deposited the engine and gearbox on the road one day he claimed....

That's what I thought... But no it's not. When I started messing about with the values for the oscillator then it became apparent that the errors were all off the same amount. I measured the probes at the tip with them plugged into the (switched off!) ’scope. Basic straight x1 probe, was over 100pF. The switched x10 probe on x10 measured 15pF .... That x10 probe did have 1000 pF on ×1 ....according to the Atlas.
The salient point is that In the case of the ×1 basic and ×10 probe, the effect is observable on the circuit under test. On the ×1 setting of the switchable x1 x10 probe, there must be leakage or a high value resistance in parallel confusing the Atlas?
