Well done Peter, and thanks for posting your findings. The reported behaviour of the (analogous) screen grid is most helpful as it seems to be at odds with my preconceived ideas.
This may shed some light on why dads experimental replacement of a DL96 with a rod pentode had required a bias battery.....
