The Hedghog can convert aspect ratios and can be set to do 4:3=> 4:3, 4:3 => 5:4, 16:9 => 4:3 and 16:9 => 5:4. It is done by cropping the appropriate amounts from the left and right of the picture.
What we are watching in that video is the Hedghog setup to convert 16:9 => 5:4. In the close up of the Hedghog the switches can be seen setup this ways. The 2nd switch from the left is for input selection 4:3/16:9. 4:3 is the top position. The right most toggle switch is for output selection 4:3/5:4 again 4:3 is the top position.
Only the output selection effects the way the test card appears. The input selection does not.
