Personally I believe it a con to feed the audio fools with nonsense.
I did a very high end amp a few years ago which had a capacitor failure. The component could have been replaced by one from RS or even one from my stock. The customer was so abusive when I told him I had a replacement that was under £10. He told me that the sound would be dreadful and brought into the conversation that I was a cowboy. I was about to throw the amp at him when he said he'd get the proper replacement a beautiful epoxy made cap with high quality ends. The customer brought me the cap a couple of weeks later with a price tag of around £100. I decided to fit the cap while he waited but I said shall we open up the old cap to see the inside. A couple of hits with a hammer and it split open to reveal a cheap Chinese cap inside. To say the air was blue was an understatement. He took the lot away and said he was going to sue the manufacturer. So there you go, all nonsense in my mind.
