Double box the radio with at least an inch of packaging between the boxes. And 2 inches all around the radio in the inner box. With some stiff card or ply over the dial and also speaker cloth.
One word of warning though, never apply tape direct to the finish of vintage radios. It is liable to pull the lacquer off when removed.
