Blocks of expanded polystyrene are useful they can be cut to shape.
Another idea is to bag the radio and then encapsulate it in expanding foam, on the top, sides and bottom, then have a different material on the front that is removable.
Don't forget those air bag thing's they are really good so long as they are away from something that can puncture them.
