I think you will find that Eric Cole began his "electrical" career just after the end of WW1
building battery eliminators.
At that time he was manufacturing on the first floor of a building (shop?) on the
S. East corner of Beedell Avenue and London Road (A13) in Westcliff-On-Sea.
Perhaps around 2 miles from the site of his eventual factory complex. (a photogragh
of which was included in WW2 Luftwaffe bombing targets!)
