I looked up the EF732. It is similar to the 6ж1б in electrical specs although the EF732 is slightly better rated and seems to be better designed for RF use. I take my 6ж1б 's as good little basic valves, which they work well. I do have some nuvistors for higher frequencies but have not used any yet. I am not sure about 8mm wires with my socket. My used valve has leads around 12mm long, which is about where I cut them unless higher frequency (lower VHF at present). I think 10mm leads would be Ok but 8mm may be a bit tight. Some of the rod pentodes may be a bit of an issue too, with short leads, as they sometimes have a central wire connection on the base. As I normally only buy NOS valves (except for the odd 'standard' B9A, B7G western type) it is unlikely to be an issue for me.
