I used transformer oil I once bought (via a friend) from someone selling it. No specification or name unfortunately because he put it in a different container.
If indeed it is transformer oil, it could be similar to (or actually be) Shell Diala oil or Texaco GK2.
For the repair of my Philips 385U LOPT I intended to use vegetable oil (sunflower oil), and I already had heated some to drive out any moisture (no water seemed present though - it just heated up without any gas forming or bubbling).
I kept this oil for future use.
Eventually I chose the transformer oil because it was "thinner" and I reckon it would fill all the voids and crevices better (under vacuum).
Note: the 25 kV transformer coil (it is an 8 kV coil with a tripler with the three EY51s) is very small.
In an earlier case I used 3M Fluorinert FC-43, simply because I had a small quantity of it. It is way too expensive to buy it.
I think David B was going to try some kind of synthetic brake fluid, which I thought was a very good find, but I can't recall reading any results of it.
