I did spend a while on the net, I specifically wanted the Murphy news article, I did speculate why they used a PCL 83 for the design, but they probably just used that as it would have already been in their inventory for use in their TV products.
Murphy build quality seemed to have been quite good and the radio and TV cabinets were mostly very stylish, however I've been discussing with a friend how some of their circuitry sometimes had a crease in the blueprint quality, though no doubting that it had good functionality....
