Hi.
During the 9 months I worked for Vodafone I used noise cancelling headphones, they do work up to a point, I doubt they would be effective in a 30 year old tractor.
Normal ear defenders would be good but you'd need a really good stereo system too.
Actually a portable radio and good quality well sealed in ear headphones could be a solution.
