I don't bother checking resistors from my drawers, but I do check the capacitors as they can go off!
I do check old wirewound and "vintage" resistors, of which I've accumulated a significant stock. They may be open circuit or more than 50% out.
I might check the smoke filled 3 legged beasts on the Chinese Universal tester just to verify the pin connections.
