You'd want a 6V ignition coil and battery, if there is ONLY a magneto coil present, which then wouldn't be connected. OTH idle performance might be better and starting easier. You'd also need to charge the battery, so a rectifier and regulator off the lighting coil. I've no idea what voltage and current the magneto coil does if you treat it as a simple generator.

Why not NPN on the points and then either NPN LOPT driver or 1500V SMPSU FET? Cost almost nothing. It's not like it has a DC supply of any kind right now, if it's like the old Lambrettas and Vespas I had in the early 1970s.
