Minimalist is the word!
Even if you removed the IFTs and drilled out the rivets to have more access, the switch tags and wiring are near inaccessible. However that's not uncommon. All the main chassis parts are easy. The worst I ever worked on for access were three Eddystones for a friend. Loads of waxies UNDER the giant switch wafers and under coils. I removed some coils and cut some waxies out with points of scissors closed by pliers. Tweezers and skinny iron to resolder.
The idea of hardboard rather than the steel of a 1950s Vidor or Ever Ready looks cheap, but actually a good idea apart from the weight. Some UK sets did use aluminium, but an amazing number of 1950s UK portables had steel panels, though the Sky Baby is plastic. The Sky Casket is pretty minimalist but a strange cabinet and expensive speaker.
