Thanks for the advice. There is bias on the head, I do not know the signal level which should be present on the head though.
If the bias is simply fed into a tap in the head windings it should be straight forward. I was wondering if it was a completely seperate winding with some fancy goings-on.
n.b. This is a two head machine, with seperate erase head and combined record and playback head.
The erase is working. the head resistance is in the order of 10s of ohms iirc, quite low but I think this is correct.
