Modern chain driven OHC are no where as good as they were.
You need special oils of the correct rating. Older chain driven OHC chains were good. Look at the BMW 1602/2002, 316 etc went for years, and when noisy could be replaced in situ with just the cam cover and top chain guard removed. The otherwise unreliable imp had long lived chains. Modern simplex chains don't last the pace.
