No magic, just hours of metal bashing on an old box (already lots of holes in the front so I just reversed it and stuck a plate on the back!). the front panel can be done on the PC and just laser or inkjet printed. old-fashioned OHP film for laser or inkjet printing is quite cheap.
I did think about a meter but don't usually bother with current draw on mains kit once I know the good old lamp is not glowing too much. Or did you mean voltage?
Maybe in the Mk3 (yes this is already at Mk2!) but not now, or I will spend time building test kit and never actually mending anything!
