It used to be that these amps quoted unexpectedly high powers as the manufacturers quaintly used what they called "PMP(O)" - "Peak Music Power (Output)"..., i.e. if you took the RMS value of the music peaks for however many micro/milliseconds that was (no formal definition of how to measure PMPO), yes, you could magically get big numbers, but sustaining that power for more than a hundred milliseconds or so was not possible without spontaneous disassembly... PMPO was typically (sometimes many) multiples of the rated RMS output...
This type of "Lies, damn lies & statistics" was once very common - I though that it'd died a well deserved death...
The USB PD Rev 2 and later specification, typically delivered via USB C connectors on power bricks with a suitable PSU (e.g. from Anker or similar), starts at 5V @ 2A (profile 1) and goes up to 20V @ 5A (profile 5) - the voltage you get is negotiated by the client. This means that you can create PD spoofers - little boards for a few $$ that have a USB C socket and plug into a PD-capable USB C power supply to create a very cheap variable power supply... e.g. https://www.amazon.co.uk/BIlinli-Chargin...B07TZG1723 (they are cheaper on eBay etc.). When combined with a cheap commodity variable buck converter, e.g. https://www.amazon.co.uk/KingBra-Convert...B07QG287HM, they are even more useful... i.e. use the PD spoofer to set the brick to 20V, then use the buck converter to get your 1.25-20V variable PSU at up to 5A,,,
My new motherboard will be USB C PD - the world is moving in that direction...
