I recall being fascinated when dad explained to me something of four quadrant multiplication. Mr Gilberts name was mentioned as a contributor to the design of transconductance amplifier IC's. Dad used the early CA3080E transconductance amplifier chips in a design he did for an analogue PID controler, many years afterwards He built an audio processor, just for fun, that used them too. I think it ended up in the hands of the local amateur dramatic group.
People who manage to design stuff like that when most can barely understand the concept are an inspiration.
