Tracy, I've not gone for the lowest noise options. I could have gone for an ultra low noise CPU cooling system and a better insulated case. The PSU should be silent most of the time as it's unlikely to be heavily loaded except when the PC is doing heavy work for a long period. The rest is inherently silent, apart from the 1TB HDD I intend to add. Though 1TB SSDs are no longer prohibitive. An example: https://www.ebuyer.com/829682-kingston-a...00s37-960g That's a lot less than I paid for a 500GB SSD a few years ago. You can even have a 2TB SSD for udner £200: https://www.scan.co.uk/shop/computer-har...sata3-ssds
For real speed you need M2 SSDs (they plug into PCIe slots) but just about any ordinary SATA SSD will outperform just about any spinning rust. If you have a PC that's feeling a bit slow then upgrading to an SSD of any type will put a spring in its step.
Actually my existing main PC is acceptably quiet. In other words I don't notice it 99%+ of the time. It doesn't have anything special, just respectable bits from about 5 years ago. Helped by sitting under my desk extension on a carpeted floor.
This may be useful on silent laptops: https://www.ultrabookreview.com/6520-fan...ltrabooks/ Depends on how much money you've got and how much CPU grunt you need.
